Katerina Supernova panics. A flash of recognition, like déjà vu or a memory of a dream, overwhelms her. She feels she cannot breathe, she must escape, she is lost. She has felt this before, at other times and places, and that boy has always been there, wraith-like in the background, watching. The scrapyards and back alleys and all the remains of the city fly by. Katerina knows neither what she is fleeing nor what she is seeking. She only knows she must hide or run. And then it subsides. The street widens and the sky lightens and she continues her journey home, trying to remember the details. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Katerina assumes her brother was killed at the same time as her mother, in an gang attack in their home when she was a small child, and is plagued by "episodes" of panic and hallucination that she cannot explain. She is on her way to The Last Place On Earth to see her old friend and mother-figure Sideshow Sally perform a drag show when she is accosted by the Razor Boys who taunt her by revealing that they were responsible for the incident when she was a child. She discusses with Sally that the episodes are back but the watching boy Grey appears in them and she wants to understand who he is and what he means, if anything. Kat then tells Sally that she has discovered that the Razor Boys are to blame for her mothers and brothers deaths and that she wants to get revenge. Sally is practical and says to wait and theyll discuss it later. Sally goes off to perform. Kat notices a conspicuous man soliciting some female Club Urchins, who then gives her a strange look. Kat returns to the bar and broods. Later, Kat is walking down the street when she encounters the Razor Boys and catches them in the midst of some shady dealings with the conspicuously-dressed man seen earlier, but passes by unnoticed. The stress of the situation brings on an episode, but when she comes to, she finds Grey to be quite real and standing over her, looking concerned and attempting to help. Kat is confused but insists they hide somewhere because she fears the Razor Boys will see her and hurt her. She explains who they are to Grey. Grey indicates that he wants to show her something and that she will be safe with him. Katerina and Grey sneak into the building where the Razor Boys and the suited man are doing business. The Razor Boys drop a large bag on a table for the man to inspect, money is laid down, and it is revealed through their conversation that the contents of the bag are not drugs or arms, but a baby. The Razor Boys collect their money and the man leaves. Kat and Grey follow the man to the entrance to what Kat discovers is the Underground City. Kat is shocked and begins to realise what is going on. Grey tells her he can show her more but he must find her some appropriate clothes so she will not be recognised as an intruder, as the City people arent aware of her world. Later we see Kat and Grey watching children playing in an Underground City playground, Katerina still in shock but happy to realise her brother is not dead and is safe. Overwhelmed by her discoveries, and alienated more from this society than even from her own, she turns away and begins to run toward the secret exit to her world. Grey follows and watches in the distance as Kat slumps to the ground and sobs, trying to accept all that has happened.
